LOST & FOUND PETS

FOUND A LOST PET?

Thank you for taking the time to help a lost pet. The Neenah Animal Shelter (NAS) serves as a stray holding facility for 4 areas
*City of Neenah
* Town of Vinland
* Town of Oshkosh
* Town of Winneconne
* Town of Winchester
* City of New London

Options:
  • The animal has a tag: Call the number on the tag. The owner is most likely looking for the pet.
  • Scan the animal for a microchip: All animal shelters, police stations, and vet clinics have universal scanners to check for microchips.
  • During business hours: If the stray animal is found in our contracted area, you may bring it to the shelter anytime during normal business hours. You will need to bring a government issued ID to complete a short form and note the location the animal was found (street address/landmark and city).
  • After business hours: Contact your town officials/police to arrange transport. Officials from the above areas have access to our facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Neenah Animal Shelter accepts stray animals only from those townships which have accepted an agreement.
  • Not from the above areas: Contact your local town officials/police to inquire who holds the stray contract for that area. If is vital that the animal go to the correct shelter because that is where his/her owners will look for him/her.

RECLAIMING YOUR STRAY PET

Reclaiming your stray pet:
If you believe your pet may be at NAS, please call us at 920-722-9544.

Wisconsin State Law states that all dogs must be current on rabies vaccine at all times. Many municipal laws also require cats be current on rabies vaccine. Because of these laws and our agreements with local law enforcement, NAS is not able to release an animal without proof of current rabies vaccine. Staff will need to see a rabies certificate, not a tag.

If your pet is not current on rabies vaccine, you can pre-pay for a vaccination at a veterinary clinic and bring the receipt at time of reclaim. Unfortunately NAS does not have a veterinarian on staff, so we cannot provide the vaccine.

Reclaim Rates:
To reclaim your animal, the cost is $50 for an overnight stay, then an additional $15 per day.

Day of arrival - we haven't given vaccines yet:  $15 *
Day of arrival - we have already vaccinated your pet: $35 *
Day 1: $50 *
Day 2: $65
Day 3: $80
Day 4: $95
Day 5: $110

* If your animal is not microchipped, you may opt to have this done at the time of reclaim for $30. The microchip fee takes the place of the original $50 reclaim rate. (The additional $15 per day after the first day would still apply.)
